Meet Broadway Wiz Bright Star, Madeline from Lexington, MA.
Madeline played Link Larkin in a production of Hairspray and she also got to sing with Todrick Hall when he was in Kinky Boots!
On average, how many Broadway shows do you see a year?
How many local shows or community theater shows do you see a year?
Favorite Broadway show:
Dear Evan Hansen, Kinky Boots, and Newsies
All-time favorite performer:
Songs you like to belt in the shower:
“Waving Through a Window,” “Good For You,” “Santa Fe,” “Mama I’m a Big Girl Now,” “I Know Where I’ve Been,” “One Perfect Moment” and “It’s All Happening”
Favorite piece of theater memorabilia you own:
Probably my Dear Evan Hansen playbill or Finding Neverland poster
Most memorable performance you’ve ever seen:
The first show I ever had the chance to see was Wicked when I was in 6th grade, and I’ve been in love with the theater ever since!
Why do you love theater?
I love feeling you get on stage, being able to play different characters, doing my 3 favorite things (singing, dancing, and acting) all at the same time, and having the opportunity to change people’s lives through theater, like others have done for myself.
Anyone in Dear Evan Hansen, Jack Kelly in Newsies, Nala in The Lion King, Elphaba or Glinda in Wicked, Penny Lou Pingleton in Hairspray, anyone in Rent, Effie in Dream Girls, and Campbell in Bring It On.
Best stagedoor or backstage experience?
Probably being able to sing with Todrick Hall when he was at Kinky Boots! Or when my friend in The Lion King (she played Young Nala) showed me all of the amazing costumes, puppets, and introduced me to the cast when it was on tour!
Favorite spots in NYC:
I’ve only been a couple of times, but I love Bare Burger, 44th and 45th street, Times Square, and Broadway Dance Center!
If you could sing a duet or perform a scene with any Broadway star, who would it be?
Did you ever fangirl when you met an actor/performer?:
I saw Finding Neverland when it was In Cambridge, MA with Jeremy Jordan, and as soon as he said hi to me, I burst out sobbing, full out! It was so embarrassing, but at least he signed my cast (I had a broken arm)!
What would your super power be?
Probably to fly!
Besides theater, what are some of your other passions or hobbies?
I like to dance, playing sports (ie. frisbee, basketball, softball), writing and composing musicals, biking, and spending time with my friends
Anything else you would like to share? Funny stories, weird facts about yourself, cool talents?
I love being able to transform into roles that are very different from myself. For example, I was Link Larkin in Hairspray, and I really enjoyed being able to be a guy in the show! I thought it was really interesting, and definitely helped strengthen my skills as a performer!
A funny story about Hairspray is that my mic pack wouldn’t stay in during “Run and Tell That,” which was a really big dance number in our show, and the wire kept getting tangled in my legs, and then Tracy’s mic also fell, so we incorporated fixing each others mics into a part where we freestyle dance, but it looked like we just had our hands on each other’s hips!
I also love to compose and write musicals with my sister!
