Lauren is a Bright Star!

Meet Broadway Wiz Bright Star, Lauren!

Lauren’s favorite shows are Bright Star and A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder. She loves going to the Broadway Flea market and meeting other fans!

Hometown:
I’m basically a nomad, constantly moving among North Carolina, Delaware, and NYC

On average, how many Broadway or Off-Broadway shows do you see a year?
25

Favorite Broadway show:
Either Bright Star or Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder

All-time favorite performer:
Carmen Cusack

Songs you like to belt in the shower:
“Breathe” from In The Heights

Favorite piece of theater memorabilia you own:
I saw Wicked when I was 10, and 8 years later, I finally met Julia Murney who was my Elphaba, and she personalized my old playbill for me.

Most memorable performance you’ve ever seen:
The last time I saw Gentleman’s Guide with Lisa O’Hare because she surprised me and brought me backstage that day and she has meant a lot to me that year. Plus she just gave it her all because it was her second to last show.

Best interaction you have had with another theater fan:
I just loved the Broadway Flea Market overall experience because I met so many of my online friends and it was just such a wonderful way for all of us fans to come together.

Why do you love theater?
I love the escape. Being a college student in NYC, it’s very easy to get overwhelmed and stressed. However, I would go rush a show on the weekend with my friends, and it would get me through the week. I had a place where I could just go and be mesmerized and forget everything bad going on in my life. Plus there are so many shows nowadays that people can connect with and realize that there is hope.

Dream roles?
Alice Murphy in Bright Star, Millie in Thoroughly Modern Millie, Sibella in GGLAM, Mary Poppins

Best stagedoor or backstage experience?
The one with Lisa I previously mentioned was definitely the best backstage experience. But also just every time I met Carmen Cusack at the stage door was so cool because I admire her so much and she’s just the sweetest.

Favorite spots in NYC:
Frisson, Chalait, anywhere in the West Village or Soho.

If you could sing a duet or perform a scene with any Broadway star, who would it be?
Teal Wicks just because her voice is insane and she’s so awesome and hilarious

Did you ever fangirl when you met an actor/performer?:
The first time I met Carmen, I legit could not breathe. I was behind the barricade, she made her way down the line, and when she got to me I told her she was wonderful and that I dropped off a letter the previous week and that my name was Lauren. Her face lit up and she asked me to hug her and just thanked me for all of my support and was just so sweet. Then she pointed to me, talking to the others around at the stage door and said “She’s so pretty!!” when we took our picture and I basically died cause like who wouldn’t?? It’s Carmen Cusack!

Favorite thing about Broadway Wiz?
All of your tips for cheap tickets! Broke college student probs…

What would your super power be?
I’d love to fly so I could see NYC in a new light

Besides theater, what are some of your other passions or hobbies?
I write a blog, and I enjoy using fashion for creating look books and videos sharing new ideas of mine. Just going to brunch with my friends in the city is one of my favorite things too!
