If you haven’t seen Jessie Mueller in Beautiful, the Carole King Musical yet, seriously get up and go see it! It is the best musical out there right now, if I do say so myself.
The storyline is outstanding. It shows you that life as a music writer is not just fame and glory. It tells the story of Carole King, a songwriter for the entertainment industry. Together with her husband Jake Epstein, played by Gerry Goffin, the couple competes with Barry Man and Cynthia Weil, played by Anika Larsen,to be the number one song writer and composer. I never realized how many songs are by Carole King; from One Fine Day to Beautiful to Natural Woman – most of which are still popular today! Read the rest of my review here
New York, NY – Producers Paul Blake and Sony/ATV Music Publishing announced today thatJake Epstein, who originated the role of Gerry Goffin on Broadway in Beautiful – The Carole King Musical, will return to the role on September 22, 2016. Epstein, will re-join the cast on September 20, 2016, taking over for Scott J. Campbell as Goffin, King’s first husband and writing partner. Beautiful – The Carole King Musical is now in its third hit year at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (124 West 43rd Street).
In addition to his role as ‘Gerry Goffin’ in Beautiful, Epstein is probably best known for his role as Craig Manning in “Degrassi: The Next Generation.” His theater credits include Spider-Man, Straight, Spring Awakening, American Idiot, and Billy Elliot. Recently, Epstein co-wrote and starred in the play Therefore Choose Life in Toronto.

Campbell as ‘Gerry Goffin’, Jessica Keenan Wynn as ‘Cynthia Weil,’ Ben Jacoby as ‘Barry Mann,’ Paul Anthony Stewart as ‘Don Kirshner’, Tony® Award nominee Liz Larsen as ‘Genie Klein’, an ensemble that includes Gisela Adisa, Douglas Carpenter, Kevin Duda, James Harkness, Laurel Harris, Sara King, Rebecca LaChance, Douglas Lyons, Rob Marnell, Chelsea Packard, Gabrielle Reid, Nicholas Ryan, Rashidra Scott, Kimber Sprawl, Yasmeen Sulieman, Nasia Thomas, Daniel Torres, Melvin Tunstall, and Alan Wiggins.
Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock ‘n’ roll. But it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation.
With a book by Tony® and Academy® Award-nominee Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni and choreography by Josh Prince, Beautiful features a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil.
