Broadway, Here They Come

The excitement over the Tony Awards is over for 2014-15, but good things are still coming to Broadway!! Get ready for some awesome new shows for the 2015-2016 year!

SCHOOL OF ROCK- The Musical Previews begin Nov. 2. Opens Dec. 6 at the Winter Garden Theatre. Wouldn’t you want to be in a class that teaches you how to rock instead of memorize and repeat? I would!

HAMILTON
It was a huge success when it was off-Broadway and I am so sad I didn’t get a chance to see it. Luckily it is coming to Broadway! The musical was written by Lin-Manuel Miranda (Multiple Drama Desk Award Winner) and he also stars in it. The show is a rap musical about our founding father Alexander Hamilton. Previews begin July 13. Opens August 6, at the Richard Rodgers Theatre.

ON YOUR FEET
It’s about the Miami favorites, Gloria and Emilio Estefan and their life in the showbiz. The show will be staring Ana Villafañe and Josh Segarra. Directed by Jerry Mitchell and written by Gloria Estefan (music), Alexander Dinelaris (book). Previews October 5. Opens November 5, at the Marquis Theatre.

THE COLOR PURPLE
Take a journey with Celie, growing up with a hard life and trying to find love and power in her own life. Starring Jennifer Hudson who I can’t wait to see on Broadway – she is incredible! Written by Brenda Russell, Allee Willis and Stephen Bray (music and lyrics) and Marsha Norman (book), the show will be directed by John Doyle. Previews begin November 9. Opens December 10, at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre.

FIDDLER ON THE ROOF
“To life, to life! L’chaim!” I can’t wait to see this performed live. When I was little I watched the movie hundreds of times. It was like a Sunday night “tradition!” Starring Danny Burstein as Tevye, and directed by Bartlett Sher (The King and I, South Pacific). Written by Jerry Bock (music), Sheldon Harnick (lyrics) and Joseph Stein (book). Previews begin November 12. Opens December 17, at the Broadway Theatre.

SHE LOVES ME
Yes, Laura Benanti is coming back to Broadway! She will be starring opposite Josh Radnor and wow what a great pair they will be. It is a revival of the 1963 Jerry Bock-Sheldon Harnick Musical, directed by Scott Ellis. Previews and opening will begin in the spring of 2016 at Studio 54. Can this come out sooner please?
