Meet Broadway Wiz Bright Star, Brandon from Sparks, Georgia.
Brandon’s favorite show is Rent and he once sang a surprise duet with Shoshana Bean!
On average, how many Broadway or Off-Broadway shows do you see a year?
How many local shows or community theater shows do you see a year?
10+ (not including the ones I’m in)
Favorite Broadway show:
All-time favorite performer:
Michael C. Hall
Songs you like to belt in the shower:
Defying Gravity (who doesn’t? 🙂 ), Take Me or Leave Me
Favorite piece of theater memorabilia you own:
I have a signed Wicked playbill by Lindsay Mendez (my second favorite Elphaba)
Most memorable performance you’ve ever seen:
Hedwig and the Angry Inch. I saw Michael C. Hall as Hedwig. I went in knowing nothing about the show and only knowing Michael as Dexter. As soon as I saw Hedwig coming down from the rafters my life completely changed. The show helped me through so much.
Best interaction you have had with another theater fan:
While I was a freshmen in high school, every day in drama class my teacher would pair me with another theater fan in the class and we would do mashups of songs from different shows. That was the best experience I have ever had.
Why do you love theater?
Theatre has been a safe place for me ever since I was 7 (when I started acting). Every day I wake up looking forward to going to my theatre class and just being myself. I’ve always been picked up because my voice hasn’t changed yet, but in theatre that doesn’t matter. You’re encouraged to be different.
Hedwig, Angel in Rent, Dan in Next to Normal, Gabe in Next to Normal, Lola in Kinky Boots, Rum Tum Tugger in Cats, Mark in Rent, Elphaba in Wicked, Fiyero in Wicked.
Best stagedoor or backstage experience?
Meeting Anthony Rapp on the closing night of Rent on Broadway.
Favorite spots in NYC:
54 Below. Always have such a great time there. Also, the theatre.
If you could sing a duet or perform a scene with any Broadway star, who would it be?
I would definitely sing anything with Patti LuPone.
Did you ever fangirl when you met an actor/performer?:
When I met Gwen Stewart from RENT at the Hollywood Bowl, I screamed my head off. This woman’s vocals have been my biggest influence to keep pushing through life.
Favorite thing about Broadway Wiz?
Everything. I love how this is a safe place and that anyone feels welcome.
What would your super power be?
To be half as great a singer as Patti LuPone.
Besides theater, what are some of your other passions or hobbies?
I really like writing. I have a lot of journals filled with short poems.
Anything else you would like to share? Funny stories, weird facts about yourself, cool talents?
Every where I go, people say I’m always singing showtunes. Well, while I was in NY this past summer, I was walking down the street belting “No Good Deed”. Out of nowhere I see Shoshana Bean and she literally sang “No Good Deed” with me!!!
