Adam is a Bright Star!

Meet Broadway Wiz Bright Star, Adam B. Kaufman from Yardley, PA! Adam was the first male dance minor in the history of his alma mater, class of ’96 (#TwentyYearReunion!). This is one Bright Star you might even be able to catch on stage one day! Adam’s all-time favorite show is Rock of Ages and currently he loves Something Rotten!.

On average, how many Broadway or Off-Broadway shows do you see a year?
50

All-time favorite performer:
Kerry Butler is delightful in everything!

Song you like to belt in the shower:
The opening number to Hamilton, these days

Favorite or most interesting piece of theater memorabilia you own:
I have a Heathers: the Movie (my favorite movie) metal locker signed by the opening night leads of Heathers: the Musical. Inside is a Playbill from every month it ran, plus a scrunchie and stage-used 3-D glasses

Most memorable performance you’ve ever seen:
Every time I saw the Deaf West revival of Spring Awakening. Nothing can compare.
But I also was fortunate to attend the 2011 Tony Awards as a seat filler, and was sitting 4th row, center, for Neil Patrick Harris and Hugh Jackman’s “Anything You Can Host, I Can Host Better” duet!

Best interaction you have had with another theater fan:
I went on a Rock of Ages cruise with friends I made via the Broadway production m/

Why do you love theater?
It’s live, it’s kinetic, and it’s different every time.

Dream roles?
Mike in A Chorus Line. I got called back, but was cast as Mark Anthony.
Currently running: Ogie in Waitress

Best stagedoor or backstage experience?
No stagedoor experience compares to the Deaf West revival of Spring Awakening. The non-hearing cast interactions were amazing and they were always so happy to be there.
But really, best overall would be the first preview of Heathers: the Musical, when I brought the aforementioned locker. The cast embraced me and it started a chain of events and a relationship I was able to grow with the cast and creative team that continues today. #Very

Favorite spots in NYC:
All the toy stores closed, so I have no solid answer. Maybe Virgil’s BBQ or the area behind (above) New World Stages

If you could sing a duet or perform a scene with any Broadway star, who would it be?
Neil Patrick Harris. The answer is always going to be NPH. If you’re playing Cards Against Humanity and you have the NPH card, save it to play against me.

Did you ever fangirl when you met an actor/performer?:
Never. I always treat them as people, and respect and appreciate them for being good at what they do.

Favorite thing about Broadway Wiz?
Joy!

What would your super power be?
Healing factor

Besides theater, what are some of your other passions or hobbies?
I collect high-end toys. I also really dig Sci-Fi, Fantasy, and Horror. I read a lot, and watch a lot of TV.
