Great Comet Book Giveaway!

Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet Of 1812 has been a revelation on Broadway. It’s a completely new type of Broadway experience, one that sets the bar high for future productions. Since the show has has been receiving rave reviews from both fans and critics, it’s safe to say that it’s a big hit.

I first saw The Great Comet in previews and while I expecting to enjoy it, it far surpassed what I had imagined. Of course, this led to me obsessively googling all I could about the production- it’s history, the music, about the actors, etc. Isn’t that what everyone does when they fall in love with a Broadway show?

Broadway Wiz recently had the opportunity to chat with Brittain Ashford, who has been with the show from its inception. In fact, Dave Malloy crafted the role of Sonya especially for her!

That’s why I was so excited to receive a copy of the new book Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet Of 1812: The Journey Of A New Musical To Broadway. Written by Steven Suskin and Dave Malloy, this book is a true delight for musical lovers or fans of the show and of the cast.

    I love Letters!

My favorite song(that’s tough) is Dust and Ashes. Josh Groban is an amazing singer and just the lyrics of that song truly speak to me. My favorite line is, “they say we are asleep until we love in love, we are children of dust and ashes but, when we fall in love we wake up…” I mean how gorgeous! Also what a strange yet fascinating way to explain what falling in love is like.

My favourite song currently(i mean, it changes all the time, how can it not?) is Pierre & Anatole. I love the line “I do not consider myself bound to answer questions put to me in that tone.” It’s been stuck in my head all day. Oh, and also Lucas Steele’s high note. ofc

It’s difficult to narrow down just one favorite song, but I’m going to choose Dust & Ashes. The internal struggle Pierre is experiencing is expressed so deeply and shows how much he wants to wake up into a new life by experiencing the love he longs to find. Josh’s voice lends such a hearfelt and beautiful interpretation to the song’s lyrics and it is always a show-stopper for me.
